SANDWICH TERN hovering over nest, Farne Islands, NE England Visited the Farne Islands in early July and thoroughly enjoyed myself, what an incredible spectacle at that time of year, so many birds and so much activity. The time allowed on each island is not enough for photographers and unfortunately you are there during the middle of the day when the light is at its worst. I actually missed the boat back by 5 minutes - not deliberately I assure you. Because of the limited time I just concentrated on the Puffins and Sandwich Terns in flight. The general lack of wind in July meant that the Puffins were flying like bullets making flight photography very challenging to say the least.
Canon EOS-1D Mark 2, Canon 500mm. ISO 320ASA, 1/2500th at F5.6. Manual exposure taken off a neutral bakcground., Servo AI autofocus. RAW file. White balance auto. Full frame image. Minor PS adjustments to levels, USM, saturation and removal dust spots.. |
